Reading Notes B: Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution A



Intro:
Vias told the story to genesha, lord of beginners. The story has changed many times.

Ep 1:
The story starts on the day King Shantanu of Hasinapur was in the bank of Ganga. He married the river goddess, who drowned there first seven children. The king stopped her at the eighth. She was freeing the celestial spirits from mortality.

Ep 2:
Sixteen years after the river goddess left with the eighth child, the king finds him near the river. Devavrat is an impressive warrior and was wise. He was loved and welcomed as the prince. The king falls in love once again with another, Satyavati. Her father denied the kings request for marriage.

Ep 3:
Devavrat gives up the crown, so the father would let Satyavti would marry his father. Devavrat then to stop the worry of Satyavti's father even more makes a vow not to have children. Devavrat takes the name Bhishma. The king felt bad for Devavrat and let him choose the moment of his death. Satyavti and the king marry.

Ep 4:
Bhishma acted as a guardian to the kingdom. He also acted as a father to his two half brothers, Chitrangad and Vichitraveerya. Chitrangad was killed in battle. Vichitraveerya was a sickly man and was now king. Bhishma kidnapped the three princesses of the Kashi.

Ep 5:
Amba, Ambika, and Ambalika are the three princess of Kashi. Amba wanted to leave for another man and Bhishma apologized for his actions. Amba was rejected for being taken by another man. She ask Bhishma to marry her and was rejected.  Amba wanted revenge. Sage Parshuram said he will convince Bhishma to marry her. Bhishma refused and the sage fought an even match and the sage gave up.

Ep 6:
King Vichitraveerya dies of an illness. The kingdom was prince-less and king-less. Bhishma still refused to have a child. Satyavti had a child with a sage before she had married the king. Vyas was summoned to the court. He was not a good looking man. The princess were to have children with him.

Ep 7:
Ambika closed her eyes when Vyas took her into his embrace. The child born to her was blind. Ambalika was pale with Vyas. The child born to her was pale and sickly. Vyas was accept by a servant girl. Dhritarashtra, blind, was strong and kind. Pandu, pale, as great archer and was loved by the people. The servant girl gave birth to Vidura who wise. They grew up under Bhishma. Dhritarashtra and Pandu were rivals.

Ep 8:
Dhritarashtra took the throne. Pandu was the commander of the armies. Pandu acted as king and this was common knowledge. Gandhari married Dhritarashtra and gave her sight. Gandhari's brother brother was upset over this. Pandu married Kunti and Madri.
