Canvas allows for an avatar image and the ability to change your name. This is great for people who often go be another name. It can also help people confirm who you are if they need to sent you an email. Personally I think this features are great to have, but I don't care to use them. If someone really needs to contact me, I'm certain they can find a way.
I have always wonder why people put their pictures on Canvas. I guess just to let their class mates and teachers know what they look like. I'm with you I don't really want my picture on the site but I don't see a problem with it either. I have no reason to change my name either. I would maybe add a picture if I had more time at OU but this is my last semester.
